Nike ISPA has been releasing its outside-the-box advanced concept silhouettes for almost two years now, and things get more and more interesting with every new release. This month, the previously-secret division of the Swoosh unveiled their latest creation, the OverReact.

The OverReact is an extremely complicated piece of footwear at first glance, and luckily, we’ve had a chance to check them out in person and get a better look under the hood. The silhouette begins with a single-piece Flyknit bootie, nothing new, but with some pretty interesting new technical upgrades from the ISPA team. First, the fit is adjusted by a midfoot strap that stretches from the medial side across the foot, made from woven elastic and a large plastic pull tab for easy removal from the velcro strip. The strap is supported by an interesting new laminated Flyknit panel that is stiff enough to add real support to the shoe while maintaining the general comfort of knit materials. Additionally, both shoes feature a small woven bag with Nike ISPA branding attached to the tongue via a metal snap. After a thorough examination, our best guess is that it’s a smell absorbing material to put in the shoes when you’re done wearing them. Thanks, Nike.
