Nike’s ISPA division has been on a roll in 2019, releasing a slew of technical footwear that blends Nike’s futuristic design with a function-over-form mentality. The latest of these advanced sneakers, the Joyride Envelope, debuts later this week.

Standing for Improvise, Scavenge, Protect, and Adapt, Nike ISPA has been a long-standing part of the brand, though it wasn’t until this year that it was fully unveiled to the public. For most of its history, ISPA existed as an futuristic concept development team working on the future functionality of Nike footwear. Now, we;re living in their future, which means we finally get to see what they’ve been working on. The roundup is impressive so far, beginning with a slew of React-equipped footwear, focusing on developing highly technical uppers for easy, wather-proof wear. Now, ISPA is moving on to the Swoosh’s latest midsole advancement, Joyride. The beaded technology that debuted earlier this Fall has surfaced on the upcoming ISPA Joyride Envelope, which launches later this week. Sitting atop the Joyride tooling borrowed from the CC3 Setter, the Envelope features a folding upper secured by velcro straps. When unhooked, the straps allow the boot to open up, and the wearer to slide their foot inside. The first drop of the ISPA Joyride Envelope includes two colorways, one stealthy black iteration and a second in varying shades of blue with orange accents.
