Ever since Giannis Antetokuonmpo first announced his signature footwear deal with Nike, the sneaker community has been waiting with bated breath for more information. This week, that comes in the form of new in-hand images of the Greek Freak 1.

Giannis Antetokuonmpo is easily one of my favorite players currently dominating the National Basketball Association. When he was first drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013, a young prospect from Greece, many fans questioned his ability to lead the historic franchise out of their slump. But, as he does, Giannis overcame. Since then, the Bucks have experienced a meteoric rise to dominance, finishing the regular season with 60 wins, 22 losses, and the first place in the Eastern Conference. In that time, Antetokuonmpo has also proved himself to be one of the most dominant, athletic players currently running the court in the NBA. As expected, this drew the attention from just about every sneaker brand involved with the sport, with Giannis eventually agreeing to a deal with Nike for his first signature shoe.

While the Nike Greek Freak 1 was officially revealed before the NBA Playoffs, it wasn’t until this week that we would have a closer look at the design. Constructed from a single-piece mesh upper, Giannis’s Greek Freak 1 displays a sleek mid-top look accented by a reinforced lacing system and impossibly large reverse Swoosh helping to make up the midsole’s support through the heel and ankle. So far, the only distinguishable details include a custom 34 logo on the heels, matching both of the previewed colorways.

Giannis Antetokuonmpo’s Nike Greek Freak 1 is scheduled to make its debut next month on June 29th, 2019. Currently, the GF1’s retail price tag has not been revealed, but we expect them to be on the more affordable side for a performance basketball shoe. Check out the early in-hand images below for a better look, and stay tuned to JustFreshKicks for more information on the Nike Greek Freak.
