Nike’s annual N7 project is gearing up to release this Spring, marking thirteen years since the inception of the community-based project. For the first time this year, the N7 team will introduce a brand new silhouette, the Free Trainer N7, coming soon.

The Nike N7 program is much more than annual sneaker releases. While these regular projects are wonderful versions of classic Nike product, recreated to feature the art styles and materials of Native American and Indigenous communities around the country, the main piece of the puzzle is the N7 Fund. Created by Nike in 2009, the N7 Fund aims to uplift and empower youth in these communities through grants, enabling opportunities to lead healthier, happier, and more succesful lives. However, the shoes are also a large part of the project, funding the grants given out by Nike. The new Free Trainer N7 is a departure from the usual N7 releases, which transform classic Nike footwear with materials and colors inspired by Indigenous communities. The new Trainer N7 build a moccasin-style shoe out of suede and mesh pieces, adding woven elements along the heels and medial sides. All of this comes mounted on the Nike SFB midsole unit, a durable piece of rubber meant for anything you can throw at it.
