Nike is bringing back clear paneled sneakers to their arsenal this season, after some new experiments over the last decade. This week, the Dunk Low has joined the Fall lineup, dressed in a “Pink Rise” color scheme for the occasion.
Clear panels on sneakers are not exactly a new concept for Nike. Back in 2006, the Swoosh released two iconic projects featuring completely clear paneling, CLOT’s “Kiss of Death” Air Max 1, and the “Invisible Woman” Air Force 1. Both sneakers added a rigid clear plastic panel to the toes, and both suffer from the issue of sweaty feet fogging up the material. Since then, Nike has conducted other experiments with see-through models, like the Element 87’s transparent panels. Now, a new wave of clear shoes are on the way.
This Summer, the Air Force 1 surfaced in a 2.0 version of the iconic “Invisible Woman” look, with updated color blocking that matches Vanessa Kirby’s costume in the new Fantastic Four movie. Now, a Dunk Low has emerged with similar clear panels. Both the clear sections of these shoes feature a grid-like texture across them, meaning Nike has likely found a new, more viable see-through textile for their sneakers. The Dunk pair comes in a “Pink Rise” color scheme, though most of the pink color comes from the interior of the shoe. The rest is dressed in black tumbled leather, adding pink branding and an icy outsole to complete the look.
