Nike is paying homage to another iconic New York City landmark with a special Dunk Low this year. The subject for this release is CBGB, the music club in Manhattan that closed in 2006.
In 1973, Hilly Kristal opened CBGB in downtown Manhattan, a music club with the intent of hosting bands primarily focused on country, bluegrass, and blues. The venue became in icon in NYC, and remained open until 2006 when a rent dispute forced them to close. Over the thirty-three years in business, CBGB became an essential venue in New York’s history of punk music, and remains a piece of any famous bands history to this day.
This Spring, Nike is paying homage to CBGB with a special take on another icon, the Dunk Low. Featuring a light grey leather base with worn metallic silver overlays, they’ve added Cave Stone brown accents to complete the palette. The Nike branding on the tongues and heels is done in the style of the CBGB logo, with a printed stickered insole to complete the package.
