Nike is set to release a Cortez pack to pay tribute to both its founders and their beginnings. Named after Phil Knight’s memoir, the “Shoe Dog” pack is composed of three classic Nike Cortez.
Originally debuted back in 1972, the Nike Cortez was the Swoosh’s first official release. While the Nike Swoosh logo is instantly recognizable, there was a time in history where that was not the case. The “Shoe Dog” pack consists of three different logos that at one point were considered as the face of the Nike brand. Seen throughout three iterations of the model, this pack is a must cop for any fan of the brand.
While all three renderings bring forth a similar color scheme, each is distinctly different based on their respective logo. Composed of a simplistic colorway the shoes don a mixture of Varsity Red, Royal Blue, and White. With three different logos, each one represents a different moment in Nike’s history; the first, a predecessor to the Swoosh logo. Designed by Carolyn Davidson’s, the slimmer swoosh was once considered as the original logo before opting for a heavier and bolder look. The latter two both represent the logos and names of what could have been before Nike. The Peregrine Falcon and Dimension Six logos were two of the names considered by co-creators Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. While recent Cortez designs present a bulkier build, this “Shoe Dog” pack consists of slimmer and thinner iterations much like its predecessors.
