The Nike Challenger is not the first running shoe Swoosh fans think of when they think of the brand. However, the Challenger was game-changing at the time, so much so that Nike has brought it back in all of its original glory for 2020.

Nike’s vintage catalogs have been popping up regularly in the SNKRS app over the past few weeks, acting as a not-so-subtle heads up about what the Swoosh has in store for the year. Most recently, the brand shared an inside look at an old-school Nike catalog from the 1980s, showing off a number of silhouettes for running, training, and basketball. Keen-eyed fans may have picked out the Challenger from this lineup, a retro running shoe shown in the first slide of Nike’s latest rewind. Now, just a few days later, the Challenger has resurfaced in an updated “OG” format, meaning the Swoosh is bringing back the vintage running sneaker for another round of releases. While our first look at the vintage release showed off the Challenger silhouette in black and white, the latest colorway to surface adds another tonal release to the mix, this time decorating the shoe’s upper almost entirely in navy blue, save for a plain white Swoosh.
