The Nike Challenger is not the first running shoe Swoosh fans think of when they think of the brand. However, the slim silhouette was game-changing at the time, so much so that Nike has brought it back in all of its original glory for 2020.

Nike’s recently revived Challenger OG, a vintage running shoe from the ’80s, has barely made its way onto shelves and is already being included in Nike’s new ‘Move to Zero’ campaign, which rebuilds some of the brand’s classic footwear with a percentage of recycled materials. Most shoes so far included in the collection feature a recycled content of 50% by volume or more, meaning that half the weight of the shoe itself comes from repurposed materials. The latest batch of shoes going green are doing so quite literally, releasing in a new “Mean Green” color scheme like the upcoming Challenger OG seen here. Constructed from green canvas, this environmentally-friendly release features contrast paneling on the medial side, while Grind rubber outsoles add to the repurposed nature.

NIKE CHALLENGER OG “MEAN GREEN” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike’s latest colorway of the vintage Challenger OG, this time constructed from recycled materials, has not yet been announced for release, though they are expected to hit shelves sometime in the coming weeks. Originally from the brand’s ’80s catalog, the “Mean Green” Challenger will retain the same $90 as previous releases.
