With Father’s Day slowly approaching, Nike sets out to pay homage to the timeless “dad shoe” with their latest model. Embodying the essence of what it means to be a dad, the Air Monarch capitalizes on the classic summer cookout fit.
While the Air Monarch model can perhaps be considered as the epitome of the “dad shoe”, Nike looks to revamp the sneaker and bring it to the forefront of today’s scene. Although many sneakers have followed the chunky dad-like aesthetic in recent years, the Air Monarch has held its place as one of the most memorable–and best selling–sneakers under the “dad shoe” category.
Composed of an overall denim upper, the Air Monarch 4 resonates with classic and stereotypical outfits commonly found through dad-like attire at summer BBQ’s. While the light-washed denim acts as a focal point, there are subtle details found throughout the sneaker that complete the jean-like treatment; golden stitching accentuates the upper as well as leather tongue labels and a leather Swoosh that resemble prominent denim brands. A white and gum sole contrasts the upper while dark blue laces give the shoe yet another denim motif. As the model encompasses the dad fit, the insoles add another ode to the classic look. An overall floral design is printed onto the insoles that resembles the floral shirts typically found during the summer. To all the father’s of the world, this one is for you.
