Nike’s expansive Air Max line has introduced a number of new silhouettes in recent years, mixing classic styles with fresh new designs. The latest addition is no different, pulling from the brand’s archives to create the Air Max TW 1.

Debuted in 1987, Nike’s Air max technology was a breakthrough in running technology, providing plush cushioning with a revolutionary visual element that allowed the wearer to get a close-up look at the air bags inside. Since then, the line has expanded to include dozens of styles, from the yearly numbered pairs to some wild experimental designs along the way. This week, the new Air Max TW surfaced, showing off a fresh silhouette inspired by a number of the Swoosh’s beloved models from over the years, and acting as a successor to the Tailwind sneakers. The Air Max TW features a breathable mesh underlay, borrowing jagged stripes from the Tailwind series for an aggressive look. Leather overlays cover the mudguard and heel sections, with bound edges finishing the heel counter and lacing system. Finally, a new Air Max sole unit is on display underneath, sporting two bulbous air bags at the heel.
