The Air Max Plus from Nike is one of their most enduring Air Max models outside of the main numbered line. This season, the model takes a dip in treacherous waters, emerging with an “Oil Slick” finish.
Nike introduced their Air Max Plus in 1998, introducing their new Tuned Air system to the world. The runner features a wavy TPU cage system and sporty silhouette, draped in gradient color schemes that quickly made the shoe a street style icon. While the performance running aspects of the AM+ were out of date within a few years, the model found its footing as a lifestyle staple across Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom. Since then the Tuned sneaker has stuck around well past its original expiry date, evolving into a icon of the Air Max franchise. This season, the model returns with an interesting new look evoking an oil slick caused my the mixture of crude oil and water. The shoe’s mesh base, soles, and mudguard come entirely in black, while the wavy cage system gets a colorful iridescent finish with shades of blue, purple, green, and orange visible depending on the viewing angle. Additionally, the cage is the subject of some minor adjustments, adding liquid droplets extending from each concentric line from toe to heel, giving the entire shoe the look of being constantly in motion.
