In 1998, riding high from the success of the Air Max 97, Nike put pencil to paper and released the Air Max 98. Although it did not enjoy the achievements of previous Air Max, the 98 holds a special place in the pantheon of overly-designed sneakers.

The Air Max 98 retains the relative shape and look of it’s predecessor, the 97. They both utilize the same full-length Air sole unit, and both feature layers of synthetic leather and mesh to create the upper. The 98 is known for being slightly more flashy than the 97, featuring Nike Swoosh logos and Air branding all over the shoe. Small patches of leather add color on the toe, eyelets, and medial sides, while 3M reflective strips improve visibility in low light. The first iteration of the Air Max 98 to drop in 2018 will be an OG colorway in white, yellow, navy, and black.
