Nike Adds “DIY” Elements to the Latest Air Max 90 for Color Changing Panels

The Nike Air Max 90 is everywhere this year. With colorways popping up on an almost weekly basis, it’s hard to pin down the right one for you. Luckily, Nike is giving you the option to do some light customization on your own, with the new AM90 “DIY Flare”.

Nike’s Air Max 90 is dominating their release calendars this year, popping up every few weeks in either new general release colors or special limited-edition drops. This week, the timeless runner surfaced in one of these more limited versions, showing off wear-away leather overlays that change the colors of the shoe over time. Referred to as “DIY Flare” by Nike, this look allows you to customize the shoes to a certain degree, simply through every day wear & tear, or if you want to be a little more specific with it, by rubbing acetone on the top layer of the leather. The first colorway of this AM90 comes with a white base for most of the shoe, with accents in baby blue around the TPU lacing system, heel, and midsole. The DIY elements are added to the Air Max 90’s leather side shank, which appears in an off-white tone before it can be stripped down to show off bright red coloring underneath.

Nike’s upcoming “DIY Flare” colorway of their legendary Air Max 90 has not yet been announced for release, though they are expected to launch sometime in the coming weeks. Featuring leather with color that wears away, this special pair will come with the usual $130 price tag, and drop from both Nike and select retailers.
