Nike’s 30th anniversary celebration of the Air Max 90 is well underway, with a batch of fresh colorways hitting retailers this week. Additionally, today have our first look at an upcoming collection of the silhouette in a new “City Pack”.

The Air Max 90 is going to have a big year. Originally released in 1990, the legendary sneaker is going on 30 years on retail shelves in 2020, and as always, Nike knows how to celebrate. After the first widely available batch of new AM90 Anniversary colorways this week, we’ve also received our first look at an upcoming “City Pack”, one of the Swoosh’s favorite regular releases. This time around, the city-themed collection sees the Air Max 90 visiting New York, Paris, London, Tokyo, and Shanghai, with each pair dedicated to different citizens of each city.

New York’s Air Max 90 pays homage to the city’s firefighters, through a sleek all black colorway with red laces and a neon green Swoosh. The heel branding features rivets on either sides with an oversized “90” on the left pair to symbolize the helmet number plates of the FDNY, while the insoles sport a fire extinguisher graphic with “The Bravest” in a simple font. Next up is Paris featuring an all-white design in reference to the city’s bread bakers. The insoles feature Nike’s spin on a bread advertisement with the phrase “Baked Fresh Daily”, while the heels are emblazoned with the country’s tricolor flag as well as gold Nike Air embroidery.

London’s pair highlights the city’s postworkers, sporting a bright red colorway with navy blue side paneling and black and gold accents. The usual tongue branding is replaced with a circular postage stamp featuring Nike founder Bill Bowerman. The “Tokyo” Air Max 90 honors the city’s construction workers through a clean navy blue colorway, accented by gold eyelet plates and a gum outsole. The tongues feature colorful street signs found near construction sites, while the insoles feature an image of the Tokyo cityscape. Finally, the Shanghai Air Max 90 celebrates the city’s delivery service workers. The shoe comes in a mismatched colorway, the left shoe featuring a yellow patent leather forefoot and blue heel, and the opposite for the right. The insoles feature Nike-branded Vespa-style scooters, while the tongue labels have been replaced with a branded Air Max 90 receipt.
