Nike’s Air Max Day is upon us, and we have finally given into the idea that there are, in fact, no releases today. Fortunately for us, Nike is eager to hype up Air Max today of all days, which lead to the unveiling of four new Air Max collaborations dropping this year.

Nike’s Air Max Day celebration has arrived, and as promised, there were no special releases today. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t honor the legendary cushioning system by taking a deep dive into some statistics, thanks to our friends over at eBay. Check out their breakdown of how consumers experience Air Max technology, as well as an early look at several new Air Max collaborations set to release later this year.

  • Dropping Dollars for Air: The most expensive Air Max silhouette sold on eBay from 2014 – 2018? It’s the Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 1/97.
  • The Power of Air: Based on annual Air Max sales on eBay between 2014 – 2018, the 5 most popular silhouettes are:
  1. Nike Air Max 1
  2. Nike Air Max 90
  3. Nike Air Max 95
  4. Nike Air Max 2015
  5. Nike Air VaporMax
  • Searching for Silhouettes: Based on search results, the most coveted Nike Air Max silhouette in 2017 was the Nike Air Max 1 Atmos and the Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 1/97 in 2018.
  • Surge of Air Max Fans: With an average of 25 pairs of Nike Air Max sneakers sold per hour on eBay in 2018 and a sales increase of more than 51x in 2018 (5,044%) compared to the year prior, new and old Nike Air Max fans alike are continuing to show the affinity for the brand six years after the original release.
  • Air Max Day’s Trajectory: As sneakerheads and Nike super fans prepare for the annual holiday, eBay has seen an average increase of Air Max sales to nearly 50% in sales from February to March every year since the OG Air Max Day in 2014.

Early this morning, Nike’s Senior Director of Communications, Heidi Burgett, revealed a slew of Air Max collaborations releasing throughout the rest of Spring. Given the close proximity of these project both to each other, and Air Max Day, it is our assumption that these were sneakers intended for a special release that instead got delayed. While two of them, the CLOT X Air Vapormax 2019 and Atmos x Air Max Light 2 have already been seen in plenty of images from the past few weeks, the other two are entirely new. First up, Heron Preston is back working with the Swoosh on his own take of the Air Max 720. The new look takes heavy inspiration from the AM95, which can be seen in the wavy layered upper and all-over Swoosh branding. Next up, Cynthia Lu’s Cactus Plant Flea Market goes to work on the Air Vapormax 2019, adding a 3D Swoosh and oversized laces to the colorful silhouette.

The collection of Nike Air Max collaborations are scheduled to release throughout the following weeks, as stated in their cancellation of Air Max Day releases. First up, the Atmos x Nike Air Max Light 2 will release globally on April 5th, followed by Heron Preston’s AM95-inspired Air Max 720 on April 15th. Next up, several colorways of CLOT’s mashup of the Air Max 97 and Zoom Haven hit shelves on May 8th, and finally, the Cactus Plant Flea Market x Nike Air Vapormax 2019 launches exclusively at Dover Street Market on May 15th. Pricing for each shoe has yet to be announced, though we anticipate that each will go for a cool $190 or more, given the nature of each product. Check out the images below for a better look at each, and stay tuned to JustFreshKicks for more information on how to score a pair.
