Nike has been celebrating the Air Max 1’s thirty-fifth anniversary in style, releasing a wide range of colors so far. Today, the retro runner surfaced in a new Varsity-inspired ‘Obsidian’ look, coming soon.

The Air Max 1 is a personal favorite. Originally released in 1987, the silhouette was the first Nike Air shoe with an exposed air bubble, allowing you to see the then-fresh cushioning technology at work while you walked or ran. The AM1 was massively popular, praised by runners for its stability and durability, and beloved by the growing world of sneakerheads for its timeless look. Now, Nike is celebrating thirty-five years of the historic silhouette. This week, the sneaker surfaced in a new Varsity-inspired look, pairing the classic jacket details with an ‘Obsidian’ based color scheme. Beginning with a dark navy blue mesh base, the quarter and heel panels are added in suede in the same tone. The mudguard that runs around the shoes base is added in Gorge Green suede, with a purple embroidered Swoosh at the toe. White Swooshes and midsoles round out color scheme, while a purple Nike block branding is embroidered on each heel.
