Nike’s Air Max 1 has been on a roll this year, returning in full after it’s anniversary celebration in 2016 with new colorways and anniversary editions. This week, the all-leather Air Max 1 Premium returns in a new “Obsidian” color scheme.
The Air Max 1 surprised us this year, as Nike breathed some new life into the beloved runner just a few short years after its blowout anniversary year in 2016. Back then, Nike introduced the Air Max 1 Anniversary, a refined cut of the silhouette meant to be as close as possible to the original, while maintaining the use of modern-day materials. The result was a massive success, selling out with every release in 2016. Now, Nike has surprised us with a few more anniversary editions this year, and this week, even the all-leather Premium construction has made an appearance on release calendars. This version of the Air Max 1 is an ode to one of the silhouette’s first releases in 1987 when Nike released a special-edition all-leather construction of the running shoe in forest green to celebrate the success of the AM1. Now, this version is back, and as an added bonus, a tiny Swoosh is embroidered along the mudguard to complete the look. This week’s release sees the Air Max 1 opt for a new “Obsidian” color scheme, which pits the shoe in its classic white/grey color scheme with dark blue overlays.

Nike’s latest colorway of the Air Max 1 Premium, the all-leather iteration of the classic runner, released overseas via Hanon earlier this week, and is still making its way to global retailers over the next few weeks. The high-quality version of the classic Air Max 1 will be available from both Nike and select retailers when it launches stateside, with an elevated retail price of $150. UPDATE January 4th, 2020: Nike’s official images of the upcoming “Obsidian” Air Max 1 Leather have surfaced online, showing the full details of the new premium construction.
