Nike has been using their new ’86 Big Bubble format of the Air Max 1 to rehash some of the silhouette’s most iconic color schemes. This Fall, the 2006 “BRS” style from the Powerwall series will get the special treatment, reworking the color palette for a bright new look, coming in September.
The Air Max 1 has seen a wide range of variations in its design over the nearly four decades since its introduction in 1986. Small tweaks to the shape and and materials have been made, as well as reconstructions, or deconstructions, of the upper to give it a new twist have all landed on shelves. Each time, longtime fans of the silhouette find something to take issue with, and last year, Nike addressed those issues head on with the Air Max 1 ’86. The new look was created by deconstructing an original pair from their archives and building a modern day pair exactly to the specifications of the first, including the much larger Air bubble.
The refined Air Max 1 ’86 has become the canvas of choice when the Swoosh decides to rerelease one of the silhouette’s iconic colorways. Air Max Day releases for the past two years have featured the shoe in its OG Red & Royal Blue colors, and this Fall, they are revisiting the 2006 Powerwall series, refining the “BRS” color scheme for a new age of sneakerheads. The look begins with the classic green shade for its underlays, adding a muted gold mudguard around the perimeter. “Olive Grey” suedes make up the midfoot panels, while laser red accents make the Swooshes pop.

Nike’s rehashing of the “BRS” Air Max 1 from the Powerwall series has not been officially scheduled to release yet, but is expected to arrive sometime in September 2024. The classic colorway from 2006 has been tweaked a bit, and will likely be available from both Nike and select retailers for $170.
