Last Spring, Nike introduced a somewhat new version of their Air Max 1. This pair restored the shoe’s original larger Air bubble, recreating the original 1986 design. This Fall, the model returns with new colorways, including a shimmering “Metallic Silver” pair, coming soon.
The Air Max 1 has seen a wide range of variations in its design over the nearly four decades since its introduction in 1986. Small tweaks to the shape and and materials have been made, as well as reconstructions, or deconstructions, of the upper to give it a new twist have all landed on shelves. Each time, longtime fans of the silhouette find something to take issue with, and this year, Nike addressed those issues head on with the Air Max 1 ’86. The new look was created by deconstructing an original pair from their archives and building a modern day pair exactly to the specifications of the first, including the much larger Air bubble.
Since its introduction during last year’s Air Max Day celebration, the AM1 ’86 has been the model of choice for Nike’s higher-end projects with the silhouette, and will continue to arrive in new colors later in 2024. This week, we got an official look at a new pair in “Metallic Silver”, expected to drop this Fall. The pair features a wide gauge mesh base in Cool Grey as its underlay, with overlays int he shimmering metallic shade. White midsoles keep it from a tonal look, while Air bubble finish off the new palette.

Nike’s latest colorway to emerge of their Air Max 1 ’86 is expected to release later this year, sometime in Fall 2024. Dressed in a mix of light grey and Metallic Silver, pairs will be available from the SNKRS app and select retailers for $170.
