Nike’s ‘Big Bubble’ Air Max 1 ’86 has a surprise new release this month, paying tribute to the city of Chicago with a new ‘Blue Chill’ color scheme. Pairs will be available exclusively in the Windy City next weekend.

This year Nike introduced the Air Max 1 ’86 for Air Max Day. The new version of the shoe calls back to Tinker Hatfield’s original design, which featured a larger Air bubble in the midsole. We’ve seen a small handful of colorways launch, though it appears Nike is keeping the model for special releases, like this ‘Chicago’ pair that surfaced today. Expected to release exclusively in the Windy City, the new look rebuilds the AM1 in premium materials, starting with a white leather base layer. The mudguards and heel counters come in a grey suede, with a matching leather panel for the midfoot. More leather decorates the tongues and inner linings, while blue 3M Swooshes add a pop of color. Finally, Chicago’s skyline decorates the tongue branding and insoles.
