As we enter 2022, we also enter the thirty-fifth anniversary of the release of the Nike Air Max 1 in 1987. Debuting the Air Max franchise, both the shoe and the technology inside it are still around today, and Nike has big plans for the beloved silhouette this year.

In 1987, Nike released the Air Max 1. While it was not the debut of the brand’s Air technology by any means, it was the first shoe to show the puffed-up airbags from the outside, giving runners the ability to see what was happening under their feet. Since then, the Air Max family has expanded dramatically, featuring yearly releases of new silhouettes and anniversary celebrations filled with retro releases with each passing year. in 2022, the original Air Max 1 will turn thirty-five years old, another large milestone in the pivotal sneakers lifespan. As the AM1 remains one of the Swoosh’s most beloved models, Nike is turning up the heat for the new year, as evidenced by a range of leaked colorways said to be releasing in 2022. While there are no precise details surrounding each new style, there is enough variety to say with confidence that we will be seeing plenty of the Air Max 1 throughout 2022.

This batch of upcoming releases of the Nike Air Max 1 has not yet been announced for release, let alone shown in their physical forms, so there is very little we can say in regards to their release. At least one pair here will likely see an Air Max Day-specific release, while the other land on shelves throughout the rest of the year. Based on the number of styles seen here, we can expect a large number of AM1 releases, so stay tuned to JustFreshKicks for further updates regarding the vintage running shoe.
