After an interesting revival from Stüssy in 2020, the Nike Air Kukini is officially making a return in 2022. Already seen in a number of new styles, today the Triple Black iteration surfaced online, releasing this Summer.

The Nike Air Kukini originally launched in 2000, paralleling other legendary Nike footwear like the Air Presto. Both members of the Alpha Project, the Kukini was a stark departure from some of the Swoosh’s more popular offerings of the time, entirely shedding traditional lacing systems for a form-fitting neoprene bootie-style construction. The Kukini also provided lockdown by way of a thin plastic cage, web-like in design, that wrapped all over the topside of the silhouette, keeping the loose materials underneath in place while you ran. Now, the Kukini is set to return in retro form this year, with a handful of fresh styles in leopard print, cream, and color gradients already in the works. Today, we have our first look at the upcoming triple black release, which, if you can believe it, comes entirely blacked out. Sporting a mix of neoprene and leather for the panelling, the TPU cage comes in a glossy shade of black, standing out from the rest of the silhouette.
