Nike’s retro running series has been a hit over the past few years thanks to the faithful reconstruction of vintage silhouettes as well as a massive bump in their popularity. This week, the Air Ghost Racer gets a more modern makeover with a wild new look.

Nike’s Air Ghost Racer is the latest silhouette from the brand’s massive catalog of 90s running shoes to make a return a few decades later. Originally built in 1998 for marathon running, the shoe’s design was rumored to have been aided by Mark Nenow, a now-retired world-renowned long-distance runner. The Air Ghost Racer features a mixed mesh and leather upper and mounted on top of a Duralon outsole with Zoom cushioning. The construction of the shoe is remarkably similar to several other popular vintage Nike runners, like the Zoom Vomero 5 and the Zoom Streak.

The latest colorway of the Nike Air Ghost Racer takes a vastly different approach to the construction the silhouette, featuring an inside-out upper with a few extra layers added with colorful accents. The welded mesh base layer comes in plain white, with a large Zoom Air logo printed on the lateral sides, encased in a thin transparent covering. The Recrafted label used on retro silhouettes is visible on the outside as well, poking out from underneath one of the white leather overlays. The Swooshes on the lateral side come in twos, one smaller blue leather version partially covered by a larger yellow suede version. The heel tabs also feature a few extra layers, showing off three Swoosh branded heel caps in blue, green, and red, while the inner Swooshes stand by themselves in blue. Finally, the look is completed by camo branding on the tongue and cheetah print accents on the midsole.

Nike’s new deconstructed look for the Air Ghost Racer has not yet been announced for release, though we can expect them to drop sometime this Fall. This iteration will likely retail for the Ghost Racer’s usual $130, and will be available from Nike and select retailers.
