They’re finally here. Your favorite dad’s favorite uncle’s sneakers: the Air Cookout 1’s. After years of uproar from the community, Nike finally caved and cut out the heel section of the Air Force 1 to create a brand new, sandal-like silhouette.

Nike might have gone overboard with this one. This week, sneaker blogs and Instagram pages were clogged with official images of the Swoosh’s new Air Force 1 VTF. The new look takes a black Air Force 1 with gold accents, and removed the ankle and heel sections, save for a single strap connecting the two Swooshes in the back. The result is a pretty weird looking silhouette that most closely resembles a pair of crocs. The look plays into an ongoing joke in the sneaker community about the kind of person that wears black AF 1’s and the necessity for styles accessible to all ages, hence the grillmaster-inspired look. However, don’t rush to grab your father-in-law’s pair quite yet, they’re currently only available in kids’ sizing.
