The original iteration of the Nike Air Force 1 will always be the best. However, the brand has done an excellent job updating the classis silhouette in recent years, and the new AF1 React D/MS/X is no exception.

Nike’s React cushioning took over in 2019, being featured on everything from brand new silhouettes to retro releases with a hidden twist. This week, the Swoosh unveiled the latest archival sneaker to receive the React update: the Air Force 1 Low. Forever a fan-favorite, the vintage basketball shoe takes on an interesting new look this week, from the reconstructed upper to the drop-in midsole. The shoe begins with a mesh base layer for the quarter panels, tongue, and toe box, before the standard leather overlays for the mudguard and heel are added. The Swoosh has been removed as a cutout, and instead appears solely as an oversized outline taking over the medial side of the shoe. The heel counter and lacing eyestays have a few added layers for support, while the midsole’s AIR branding is featured in a black bold script. Finally, the shoe is completed by a drop-in React midsole, entirely removeable from the shoe. On the underside, you’ll notice a Ramp Air unit embedded in the heel, adding some extra bounce to your step.
