Nike continues to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of their Air Force 1 with special-edition releases. This week, the ‘Timeline’ mid offers a near-complete history of the silhouette printed on its tongues.

Originally released in 1982, Nike’s Air Force 1 has been through many releases and revisions over the decades to arrive where it is today. So, in honor of the shoe’s fortieth anniversary, Nike is walking us through the history of the beloved basketball shoe with the upcoming Air Force 1 Mid ‘Timeline’ release. This pair celebrates the complete timeline of the AF1 through specially printed tongue tags, giving a year-by-year breakdown. While its hard to make out some of the details, various dates present include the introduction of the low-top version and women’s’ sizes, jelly Swooshes, and even the AF1’s discontinuation in 1984. As for the shoe itself, it begins with an off-white canvas base layer, adding leather overlays in Vachetta tan and a black ballistic Swoosh. The outer heel each sport different embroidered decals, a star and Swoosh for the left shoe, and what appears to be two cute beaver characters on the right, who are also present on the shoes insoles.
