The Nike Air Force 1 Mid “Independence Day” first releases back in 1997, hot on the heels of a wildly popular movie with a strikingly similar name. Now, Nike is rumored to be rehashing the iconic color scheme twenty-five years later.

Nike’s Air Force 1 is as essential to the brand’s history as Michael Jordan, Tinker Hatfield, and Air technology. Originally developed in the 1980s for the basketball court, and produced in high, mid, and low-top iterations, the Air Force has remained one of the most popular shoes on earth nearly 40 years after its debut. So, as Nike prepares to celebrate the shoe’s upcoming fortieth anniversary in 2022, it comes as no surprise that they’d reach back into the archives to re-release some interesting executions of the AF1. This week, we have an early look at one of these releases, which rehashed the Air Force 1 Mid “Independence Day” twenty-five years after it originally launched. Still as stylish as ever, the Independence Day AF1 features a white leather construction with striking metallic blue patent leather overlays. When paired with the shoe’s jewel Swoosh and red Nike branding, the result is one of the most unique-looking Air Force colorways ever made. Luckily, we may finally be able to get our hands on a pair next year.
