Nike’s iconic Swoosh logo has marked the brand’s footwear since 1971, and is often considered one of the most recognizable logos around the world. This year, Nike is celebrating the Swoosh’s 50-year-anniversary through the “First Use” pack, coming soon.

Nike is celebrating 50 years of the brand’s famous Swoosh logo this year, a brand mark that has become synonymous with style, performance, and most importantly, victory. Originally sketched by Portland State graphic design student Carolyn Davidson in 1971, the now-iconic logo was meant to invoke the sound you hear when another runner races past you, a swoosh, if you will. To celebrate the brand’s ‘First Use” of the legendary Swoosh, Nike is crafting a collection of some of their most beloved silhouettes, decked out with small details alluding to the Swoosh anniversary. For the Air Force 1 Low, the special-edition pair begins with a standard white leather base layer, before adding cream white suede for the shoe’s overlays. The lateral side Swooshes come in solid orange leather, while the medial sides feature an embroidered outline of the logo, mimicking Davidson’s original design. Underneath these line Swooshes, each pair is marked with Nike’s first use date of the Swoosh design; June 18th, 1971. The Air Force 1 joins the bold blue Air Max 90 “First Use” that first surfaced earlier this week.
