2026 is going to be a big year for Dr. Doom. The Marvel villain will make his return to the silver screen in Avengers: Doomsday, and to celebrate, Nike is reportedly cooking up another release of their unlicensed Foamposite Pro style from 2006.
In the mid-2000s, Marvel Comics characters were climbing in popularity, thanks to the success of the Fox X-Men movies and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series. The Fantastic Four were next up, with their big screen debut landing in theaters in 2005, quickly followed by a sequel in 2007. Nike saw an opportunity in between these two films, drawing up a collection of sneakers themed after the iconic characters from the F4 comics. At this time in Nike history, they were not known for securing licensing rights to IP, instead relying on the fans to draw parallels between color schemes. The strategy worked out remarkably well, considering we now know this simple black & white pair of the Foamposite Pro as the “Dr. Dooms”, despite the complete absence of his signature green hue, and with no direct reference to Doom anywhere on the shoes. With Doom returning to Marvel films this holiday season for the next Avengers movie, it appears Nike is prepping another retro of the beloved DoomPosites, with a release currently expected late in 2026.
