New Balance’s 9060 has been a steady seller for the Boston brand since its introduction several years ago. This Summer, the chunky silhouette is getting a warm weather upgrade, removing the heels for a new Mule variant, coming soon.
Back in Summer 2022, New Balance delivered a brand new lifestyle sneaker, the 9060. The silhouette was a bit divisive among sneakerheads at the time, with some praising the retro-futuristic style and other trashing the clunky, heavy-looking silhouette. Four years later, public opinion has decided that the 9060 is a hit, as the model has stayed relevant long-after the usual cycles of lifestyle models. The shoe has dropped in dozens of special styles from New Balance alongside a wide range of collaborative options, and this season, the Boston brand is giving us a fresh, Summer-ready take on the model. The new 9060 Mule removes the shoe’s heel components in favor of an open-backed design, though a velcro strap still ensures you stay locked in. These pairs also come with a toggle lacing system for even faster adjustments on the go. The 9060 Mule has surfaced in five colorways so far; a stealthy black with hi-vis neon accents, tonal black & white editions, a classic NB greyscale style, and a clean off-white pair with mauve soles.

New Balance has yet to announce their latest riff on the 9060 silhouette, though pairs are likely to release soon in time for warmer Spring & Summer months. The Mule version of the popular lifestyle model will land in a nice assortment of color options, including tonal black & white pairs, classic NB grey, and a stealthy black with neon accents. Pairs will be available from both NB and select retailers for $150.
