Nike and Matthew M. Williams are readying the Series 3 collection of their ongoing collaboration, and with it, more of the fan-favorite MMW Free TR3. This week, Williams has teased a new blakc colorway featuring a translucent Vibram sole.

The Nike MMW Free TR3 is one of the most interesting Swoosh collaborations to release this year, thanks to the brilliant mind of ALYX designer Matthew M. Williams. The shoe combines a high-cut, technical piece of Nike footwear with a modular Vibram outsole, allowing the wearer to gear up for tougher terrain when needed. Since its debut, the MMW Nike Free TR3 has become a grail-level piece for fans of ALYX and Williams, with many still hunting a pair since the original release. Luckily, there’s another chance on the way. With the release of the MMW x Nike Series 3 on the horizon for this week, Williams himself has shared a closer look at a potential upcoming colorway of the technical boot. Using the knit women’s pair of the Free TR3 in black, the shoe appears to feature hand-painted Swooshes, a stark change from the originals, as well as a translucent rubber Vibram outsole, in constrast to the plain white or red versions from before. The result is a somewhat deconstructed look for the shoe that lends a handmade quality to the design.

Matthew M. Williams’ latest colorway of the MMW Nike Free TR3 has not yet been announced for release, though given the timing of Williams’ early leak, they could arrive alongside the MMW x Nike Series 3 later this week. The new black colorway will retain the same $325 price tag as the original run, and likely release from both Nike and select retailers.
