The partnership between Alyx’s Matthew M. Williams and Nike is already well underway with two apparel collection already available. Now, the long-anticipated signature sneaker from the Alyx design lead is finally coming.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve had a good look at Matthew M. Williams’ top-secret project with Nike. While the partnership between the two was first announced last year, and closely followed by not one, but two, apparel collections, fans of the technical fashion brand were left wanting more. Not to say that Williams’ Nike collections weren’t good- they were excellent- but we had already had a taste of what was to come, and we wanted it now. Around the time the project was first announced, a sample sneaker surfaced online, showcasing a Nike sneaker unlike anything we’ve seen in recent memory. It appeared to be made in two parts, a bootie-like upper that strapped into a thick and protective Vibram outsole. Now, nearly a year later, we finally have a closer look.

We already had a pretty good idea of what MMW’s signature Nike sneaker would look like, but the new images from SoleByJC confirm it. Just as we expected, this unnamed silhouette is absolutely wild. The upper appears to be made form a variety of materials, including knit textile, leather, elastic, and mesh. These are applied all around the shoe, altering the stability and flexibility where it is most needed. The latest colorway also shows off some of the layering that’s going on around the heel and midfoot thanks to the off-white and black color scheme.

Over the past year’s we’ve had several early looks at the upcoming signature sneaker from Matthew M. Williams, without regards as to a potential release date. We are expecting the technical new silhouette to release sometime this year, though this remains to be seen.
