Baseball season is heating up as we head into Summer, and more MLB x Nike City Connect sneakers are on the way. This week, the Cincinatti Reds have unveiled their pair of the Air Max 1, releasing exclusively in Cincy next week.
Nike’s tenure as the official jersey designer for Major League Baseball began in the 2020 season, taking over for Majestic after their fifteen year run. The results in the past few years have been a bit mixed, since Fanatics is involved in the manufacturing side and their product is, well, very cheap. On the design side, things are great, with Nike bringing their City Connect premise from the NBA court onto the MLB diamond, drafting new kits every season to represent each team’s home city through cultural ties.
This year, the City Connect line has added the Air Max 1 to their offerings, coloring the shoe’s in special-edition styles that are directly inspired by the corresponding jerseys. Several teams have unveiled or released their signature looks in the past few weeks, and today they are joined by the Cincinatti Reds. The Reds’ take on the iconic runner dressed the model in a bold combination of Speed Red and black. The shoe’s black base layer features a quilted stitching patter, with a similar pinstriped look appearing on the heel panels. Cincy branding stretches across both heels, appearing on the tongue tags and insoles as well.

The next release from the MLB x Nike City Connect series has been scheduled to release next week, initially on May 30th from the Reds’ team shop, followed by a drop on May 31st from Unheardof. Their take on the Air Max 1 comes in Speed Red and black, with quilted underlays and bold Cincy branding. Pairs will be available for $150.
