Get ready for the sneaker of the year. According to some new internet rumors, Nike and Hello Kitty are reuniting to finish what they started in the early 2000s, bringing the Hello Kitty Air Presto to the masses.
Yeah, you read that right. This will not be the first time that the world of Nike and the Hello Kitty IP have teamed up. Back in 2004, the two partnered up to create several colorways of the then brand new Air Presto in Hello Kitty stylings, produced in a limited run of 500 pairs across four different colorways. However, the project never fully made it to a retail release, instead cutting the numbers down to just 12 pairs of each colorway which were then distributed to friends & family. However, it appears Nike just hasn’t let that one go, and is teaming up with the Hello Kitty empire once more to follow through on what they started seventeen years ago. To be honest, it’s not even clear this is happening quite yet without any leaks or official news, but if Complex Sneakers’ Brendan Dunne is just having a laugh, then its a damn good one.
HELLO KITTY X NIKE AIR PRESTO 2022 RELEASE INFORMATION
While no official information or leaked images of the shoes are currently available, the upcoming project between Nike and Hello Kitty has been rumored to release around the holiday season of 2021, though they are far more likely to release next year in 2022. While the original runs were extremely limited in numbers, we expect the retro release to make the Hello Kitty Air Presto more widely available. UPDATE 6/3/22: Nike is set to re-release the Hello Kitty Air Presto later this week, on June 10th, 2022. Pairs will be available via the SNKRS app for $140.
UPDATE 1/28/22: While we are still awaiting Nike’s official unveiling of the upcoming Hello Kitty collaboration, official images of the capsule’s apparel have surfaced, indicating a release is just over the horizon. Showcasing a t-shirt and shorts, both items prominently feature Hello Kitty’s face
