Nike’s Element series has become a common sight on release calendars since it first debuted last year. Now, in 2019, Nike is taking the Element 55 to the next level, mixing it into collaborative projects, like their latest with ICETEES’ Fera Schmidt.

Fera Schmidt’s eye-catching take on the Nike React Element 55 takes inspiration from the designers dual lives in New York City and her Bolivian hometown, Santa Cruz de La Sierra. First, the entire silhouette is covered in a neon green tone, a color that Schmidt says reminds her of the lush landscape surrounding the town, which she counters with a tiny flash of orange around the heel counter, which is meant to symbolize the lighting in her New York City apartment. Fera also stated that the yellow/orange hybrid tone represents the creative energy she feeds off of in NYC, as well as the famous taxi cabs and neon lights. The two contrasting tones were chosen to show the differences between the two countries, while black Nike branding completes the look.
