adidas’ relationship with their Consortium-level accounts has led to some interesting collaborations in recent years, all with unique storytelling. This month, the team returns to London, where END. Clothing has cooked up a pottery-inspired take on the ZX 9000.

adidas’ ZX franchise has exploded in popularity in the past several years, bringing the retro series of footwear back into the limelight for a well-deserved round of retro releases and new exciting collaborations. This week, the adidas Originals team has tapped London-based menswear retailer END. Clothing to deliver their take on the classic ZX 9000, the last from the original ’80s run of sneakers. For their inspiration, the END. team took a closer look at ornamental pottery, decorating the ZX in colors that represent every stage of its’ creation, from clay to the kiln. The look begins with a dusty baby blue hue for the ZX 9000’s mesh base layer, representing traditional colored dyes used in the post-baking painting process, while suede overlays in grey and white provide a clean backdrop. Light brown tones on the stripes and medial paneling represents the clay after its been baked, while a terracotta brown sole evokes the color of raw clay. Pottery-inspired END. logos are added to each tongue, while a neon green END.-branded lace lock completes the look.
