PUMA and Def Jam Recordings are continuing their new partnership in 2020, starting off with a fresh collection of four shoes. The pack celebrates 30 years of Public Enemy’s best-selling “Fear of a Black Planet” album.

The first time PUMA teamed up with Def Jam Recordings came in the Summer of 2019, when the two celebrated 35 years of the historic label with a subtle take on the Clyde Court sneaker. Now, as we dig into the new decade, the German sportswear label is teaming up with Def Jam once more, this time to celebrate one of hip-hop’s most important albums: Public Enemy’s Fear of a Black Planet. Released in 1990, the work turns 30 years old in 2020, almost as old as Def Jam itself, which celebrated 35 years in 2019. To celebrate the seminal album, the two have cooked up a total of four footwear offerings, the classic Clyde and the Sky LX, one of each representing the album, and the other two Def Jam. Public Enemy’s Clyde comes in a bright red suede contrasted by a black Formstrip. PUMA x Def Jam branding appears on both tongues, along with the album name printed along both midsoles. PE’s Sky LX comes in white leather, with red accents on the tongue, Formstrip, and ankle strap. The high-top shoe features the group’s logo in red, with the name of their most popular song, Fight the Power, embossed below.

The Def Jam footwear is slightly more tame, with both shoes arriving in all-white leather with a maroon suede Formstrip to accent. Dual branding can be found on both the tongues and insoles, while the Def Jam record player logo is features on the heels in gold foil.
