BAPE and Nike finally settled their long trademark dispute lawsuit this Spring. Now, the Japanese streetwear brand has made some court-ordered changes to their flagship sneaker, the Bape Sta, debuting the updated model in a “Panda” look this week.
The long legal battle between Japanese brand BAPE and Nike ended this April. For years, BAPE as been producing their own sneakers that are shockingly close replicas of famous silhouettes, and finally came under the ire of Nike in recent years, who have gotten notably litigious in regards to fake sneakers and ripoffs. This week, BAPE is debuting their newly updated version of the iconic Bape Sta, with changes approved to no longer infringe on the Air Force trademark.
The changes made to the Bape Sta are subtle, but make for a fairly different look if you’re paying close attention. First off, the toe and heel panels now have curved edges at the midfoot where the Star logo hits, framing it in a more circular manner. The midsole has been altered slightly, removing the ridges that run the length of the shoe, instead retaining just a few near the heels. For its debut colors, BAPE has cast the shoe’s overlays in crocodile leather, and painted the shoe in a simple black and white look.
