The Air Jordan 9 is held in high regards by many Jordan fans. The same can be said for Carmelo Anthony, a longtime signature athlete for the brand. Now, the two are putting together a special Jordan 9 “Melo” to celebrate his momentous NCAA trophy win.

The next Air Jordan 9 Retro will come in a premium colorway with a rich history. Made to commemorate Carmelo Anthony’s NCAA Championship in 2003, Melo’s season alone is worthy of celebration. The 2002-2003 season at Syracuse would be Anthony’s first and last games in the NCAA. Regardless of the short time span he spent in college, he made it last. The then-freshman averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds per game, as well as leading the team in both categories and minutes played with 36. And to finish off the season, Carmelo helped the Orangemen secure their first-ever NCAA tournament win. The legendary championship run is still one of the most memorable of all time, and will now be memorialized in the form of the Air Jordan 9. The new “Melo” colorway begins with a white base for the leather upper. Next, a wood grain graphic covers the layers that outline most of the silhouette, while metallic gold paint finished off the midsole and lace eyelets. The colors for this model were specifically chosen to represent the now-famous photo of Carmelo kissing the NCAA trophy.

The next Air Jordan 9 Retro will release on April 27th, 2018. The “Mop Melo” colorway honoring Carmelo Anthony will retail for $190, a great price considering the level of detail in the shoe.
