The Air Jordan 3 is back in 2018. Celebrating the silhouettes thirtieth anniversary, Jordan Brand has unleashed a string of the sought-after retros. Now, they’re turning to new colorways, like the Summer pair inspired by the GOAT’s charity game performance.

Michael Jordan might be best known for incredible athletic performances in seemingly innocuous basketball games. The GOAT has shown up and shown out over the years, establishing an ability to put on a show when needed. This year, Jordan Brand will pay homage to that uncanny talent with a new colorway of the Air Jordan 3.

The Jordan 3 “Midsummer Magic” is directly inspired by Mike’s incredible performance in a 1988 charity game hosted by Magic Johnson. The third annual Midsummer Night’s Magic Game took place in August 1988 and featured some of the world’s biggest basketball names at the time. The All-Star-like game included Dominique Wilkins, Magic Johnson, Michael Cooper, and Jordan himself, who led his team to a victory with 54 of their 203 total points.

Now, Jordan Brand is looking back on the game with pride. The new Air Jordan 3 “Midsummer Magic” made to commemorate that game features a similar colorway to the uniforms of both teams. The shoe begins with a Sail tumbled leather upper, which is accented by grey elephant print along the toe and heel. Next, the tongue and lacing system is dyed grey to match the graphic print, while hits of red and blue adorn the midsole and eyelets, making them pop. Finally, the Air Jordan 3 “Midsummer Magic” is completed by a starry inner lining.

The new Air Jordan 3 inspired by Michael’s performance in a 1988 charity game will release on July 7th, 2018. The red, white and blue themed sneaker will retail for $190 and launch from both Nike SNKRS and select retailers.
