The Air Jordan 1 is the most recognizable silhouette in the world of sneakers, thanks to its legendary multi-decade history. Next year, the shoe turns forty years old, and Jordan Brand has some special releases lined up, including the return of the 2015 “Shattered Backboard” colorway, coming next year.
The Air Jordan 1 reached a high point in the mid-2010s. The legendary silhouette was still quite rare then, released in limited stock numbers, often in well-planned and thought-put colors that told unique stories about Jordan and the shoe’s history. In 2015, JB released the “Shattered Backboard”, an orange flip of the classic “Black Toe” look that reminisced on Michael Jordan destroying a backboard with a dunk during an exhibition game in 1985. The shoe was snatched up by fans and collectors, and was so popular it spawned two more releases trying to recapture its popularity.
This week, we’ve learned more and more about Jordan Brand’s plans for the Air Jordan 1’s fortieth anniversary next year. Rumors have begun to surface online that the SBB look will make a return in 2025, alongside some other iconic colorways, like an ’85 “Bred” pair. The colorway has been dormant for nearly ten years at this point but remains one of the silhouette’s most sought-after colorways, still fetching hundreds of dollars on resale markets.
