Packer Shoes and New Balance are reuniting this year, two years after their last team-up that brought us the “Infinity Edition” X-90. Now, the two are back in the lab, cooking up a special-edition 992 colorway just in time for Fall.
New York’s Packer Shoes may not pump out collaborations on a weekly, or monthly basis like other brands or retail stores. That’s because Mike Packer and co. have a tendency to take their time with their special-edition releases, working over every minute detail until the shoe is just right. So, it may come as no surprise that since the last time we saw a project from Packer and New Balance, the two New England natives have been hard at work on the next release, which is almost here nearly two years later. This time around, the two are working on the New Balance 992, a retro running style that’s made it’s way back onto the feet of both high fashion and sneakerheads. The Packer x New Balance 992 begins with a light tan mesh toebox, reinforced by grey leather and brown suede overlays. The midfoot is protected by suede quarter panel overlays, also in a deep brown shade, which reappears on the mesh base of the rear of the 992. The tongue, laces, and heel tab come in cream white, while a simple white and cream midsole completes the look.

The latest release from New Balance and Packer Shoes has not yet been announced for release, though we are expecting them to drop sometime this Fall. The smooth brown color scheme will likely come with a price tag in the $180 range and release in limited numbers. UPDATE September 9th, 2020: Packer Shoes has officially announced the release of their upcoming New Balance 992 project, slated to drop later this week on September 12, 2020. The smooth brown colorway of the 992 will come with a hefty $240 price tag, thanks to the Made in USA quality of the silhouette. The Packer 992 will be available exclusively from the shop’s website at 11AM EST.
