Nike Air Force 1 ’01 “Philly” Design

Nike ran the same city tribute idea earlier this year with the Air Force 1 ’01 “NYC” during the New York Knicks playoff run, which put a pixelated image of Madison Square Garden on the insoles. The Philadelphia version released as LeBron James joined the city and was timed around the Philadelphia 76ers’ first home game of the season.

The “Philly” follows the Sixers palette in white, royal blue and red. White leather covers most of the upper, while royal blue shows up on the perforated toe box and side panels. Red leather Swooshes appear on the sides of the shoe, and a smaller red Swoosh sits beneath the laces.

The city references sit on the heel and inside. “215,” one of Philadelphia’s area codes, is embroidered on one outer heel, with “PHL” on the other, both outlined in blue with a red Swoosh running through. The blue heel tabs carry white “Phila” lettering and the first Philadelphia Attack logos. The midsole stays white with blue “AIR” lettering over a blue rubber outsole.

Nike points to the city’s cobblestone streets and neighborhood character as inspiration. That concept carries over to the insoles, which show a brick wall in black and white that is split by cracks, with a red Nike logo bursting out of one part of it.

How Is It Different From the Air Force 1 ’01 “NYC”?

Both pairs pay tribute to a city, though the “NYC” version had insoles that featured a pixelated picture of Madison Square Garden. The “Philly” swaps that for a brick wall print and uses the Sixers palette, with 215 and Philadelphia Attack details on the heel.
