New Balance released their Abzorb 2000 model last year, a chunky runner packed with plenty of the eponymous cushioning tech in the sole. Now, the Boston Bbrand has a new Sleek update for the model coming later this year.
Abzorb cushioning has been an essential part of New Balance’s sole technology since its introduction in 1993. The squishy, semi-transparent gel revolutionized their running sneakers, and has stuck around as a staple of their casual footwear for over three decades. Last year, NB introduced the Abzorb 2000, a new model that reimagined the use of Abzorb in their footwear, constructing a whole new midsole with a mix of the standard gel and their SBS variant pods. the full-length design was a bit divisive among sneakerheads at first, but the comfort has won over many hearts and feet since its debut in 2025.
Back in April, we had an early look at a new take on the Abzorb 2000 during a runway show from Brazilian label Quadro Creations. Models were seen walking in a sleek new upgrade for the 2K model, which we now know is simply called 2000 Sleek, or 2000S for short. The updates design has now surfaced in official images of two colors, which show a remodeled upper combining a mesh base layer with a sleek, single layer outer shell. The shell comes with a dotted pattern across the shoe, which appears to feature some gaps exposing the mesh underneath. The two colorways are all-grey or all-black, and the former looks very similar to one of the pairs seen during the Quadro runway show a few months ago.

New Balance’s first updates take on their Abzorb 2000 lifestyle model has not been officially announced yet, but is expected during the late Summer / early Fall window. The new Sleek version will have two neutral styles available in its early days, a very light grey tone and an all-black look. Pricing information is currently unknown, but we expect these to land somewhere near the standard 2000, around $170.
