Grace Wales Bonner is taking a step in a new direction with her adidas collaboration. This week, a three-way project with Y-3 has surfaced, featuring a Wales Bonner-ified version of the Field Classic, dubbed Field Lizzard.
Yohji Yamamoto’s Y-3 label with adidas has been the pinnacle of fashion and sneaker crossovers since 2003. During their early days, Y-3 introduced the Field Classic, a unique boot purpose-built for indoor soccer fields. The model sat dormant for over twenty years, until Y-3 issued a handful of new styles this year. With the World Cup looming over the Summer sneaker season, 2026 is the perfect year for this retro. Now, Grace Wales Bonner and her team have taken on the model for a special release, the Field Lizzard.
Wales Bonner’s take on the Y-3 Field is, as always, eclectic. The Lizzard name comes from the all-over lizard leather texture applied to the model’s rich brown upper. This is paired with alternating black & white stripes, black leather panels that frame the toe and form the lacing system, with more lizard leather used for the heel counter. The tongues feature a folded leather lace shroud stamped with the Y-3 logo, while pinstriped inner linings complete the look.

The upcoming three-way collaboration from Wales Bonner, Y-3, and adidas is expected to release next week on May 13th, 2026, though it has yet to appear on adidas’ official release calendar. This silhouette is Wales Bonner’s riff on the Y-3 field shoe, originally an indoor soccer trainer from 2003. The WB edition uses lizard-textured leather in a rich brown shade, and will release from adidas and select retailers with pricing expected to be about $400.
