The New Balance 1890 is on a roll so far this season, with a number of high-profile collabs helping launch the new model. Now, JJJJound’s take on the fresh runner has surfaced, adding another big name to the silhouette’s growing list of partners.
New Balance’s rollouts for new silhouettes are some of the best in sneakers for the past few years. Since the dominance of the 2002R in 2020, each year has brought us a brand new lifestyle runner from the Boston brand, with each following a template for the initial few months on the market. The new shoe debuts in partnership with one of NB’s biggest collaborators, followed by one or two initial in-line colorways. Then, several more collaborators lend their ideas to the model. The 1890 is no different, and has had perhaps some of the best releases of a new model to date. The shoe debuted through Action Bronson’s pairs in February, then releasing in two in-line styles in March. This past week brought us the JoeFreshGoods take, excellent as always, and now, JJJJound has entered the chat.
JJJJound has been a regular New Balance partner since their debut collaboration back in 2018. The Montreal-based basics brand has released new projects yearly with NB, often coinciding with their seasonal apparel releases, and almost always cast in clean neutral tones. This week, we have an early look at their next project with the Boston running brand, bringing a more minimal approach to the 1890, which so far has released exclusively in bright, eye-catching colorful palettes. JJJJ’s take comes in black and white, casting the upper’s mesh and colded-welded tape layers in the same inky hue. The tongues break up the monotony with a flash of white, matched by the laces and midsoles.
JJJJOUND X NEW BALANCE 1890 RELEASE INFORMATION
The next collaboration from Montreal’s JJJJound and New Balance has not been announced officially yet, but is expected to and as an early Summer 2026 release. Their take on the new runner is maybe the most subtle collab yet, featuring a blacked out upper with white contrast for the tongues and soles. Pairs will be available through the brand’s website, likely with a price tag in the $180 range.
