New Balance continues to unveil new colorways of their retro 550 basketball model, this month ditching their usual neutral white makeup for a new ‘Blue Groove’ style with black leather uppers.
New Balance’s 550 is one of their most popular models of recent years, dominating the brand’s release calendars with new drops on a monthly basis. This comes in part from the silhouette’s initial reintroduction to the NB lineup, which came courtesy of a collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore, blowing up the old school basketball shoe popularity to new heights. Since then, New Balance has stuck to a formula with their 550 release, crafting mostly neutral color schemes with occasional colorful accents. This week, things are shaking up a bit, with the new ‘Blue Groove’ iteration. This pair features an upper in black leather, adding the namesake Blue Groove shade to the shoe’s midlayers, ‘N’ logos, and various branding around the new style, while a white midsole and grey outsole complete the look.
