New Balance’s 990v5 has been on fire this year, lighting up release calendars with subtle new colorways and flashy new collaborations. This week, east coast retailers YCMC shared a first look at an upcoming 990v5 dubbed “Loyalty” and limited to just 400 pairs.
It’s no secret that New Balance has been dominating the sneaker game in 2019, thanks to a mixed bag of vintage fan-favorites and all-new and exciting silhouettes. Amongst these is the New Balance 990v5, a silhouette that firmly straddles the line between new and old. Since the original 990 launches in 1982, New Balance has taken their time in advancing the design, refreshing the ultimate dad sneaker with a new look every few years. The latest iteration, debuted earlier in 2019, slims down the famous 990 and simplifies the overall design for a more passive look. Now, the Boston-based brand is showing off another special-edition release of the v5, this time teaming up with Baltimore’s YCMC. Dubbed the “Loyalty” color scheme, the new look is meant to pay tribute to the longevity and history of the 990 lines. The shoe begins with a bold red mesh layer, reinforced by the 990v5’s usual grey suede overlays. Navy blue laces are added for another pop of color, and to make things even more exciting, the “Loyalty” 990v5 will be limited to just 400 pairs worldwide.
