Louisiana boutique Sneaker Politics approaches their collaborations with a story-driven design ethos. This week, they’ve announced their latest with adidas, dressing the Adistar HRMY silhouette in a look inspired by the red snapper fish.
Sneaker Politics was founded in Lafayette, Louisiana, in 2006 by Derek Curry, who sought to bring an authentic sneaker boutique to the South. The shop quickly grew into a cultural hub, expanding to Baton Rouge and New Orleans, and later into Texas. Known for blending global sneaker culture with Louisiana community spirit, Sneaker Politics leans on their background for inspiration in collaborative releases. This week, the store unveiled its next project from adidas, which celebrates the red snapper, an essential part of the local seafood economy.
Politics has been on a run of excellent collaborations over the last year. Two releases from Asics have really stood out to us, their GEL-Kayano 14 and K1011 projects. This month, the store is reuniting with adidas for a special release, paying homage to the red snapper, a staple in Louisiana seafood cuisine. The canvas for this release is the Adistar HRMY, a runner-style silhouette introduced by adidas in recent years. The model has had a ton of in-line releases, but rarely makes it’s way onto the collab circuit. The Politics edition mimics the coloring of a snapper, starting with a dense red coloring at the top and fading to white for the midsoles. The underlay panels feature a gradient in the same tones, as well as a grid pattern to look like fish scales.
